On 20 May, RegenZ joined TWK Agri and Sunshine Seedlings at Torwoodlea Farm in New Hanover for their annual Cabbage Day. The event drew a strong attendance of commercial growers, smallholder farmers, and emerging farmers from across KwaZulu-Natal, and by all accounts it was exactly the kind of day these farmers needed.

The speaker programme covered the full picture of cabbage production. Wilmarie Kriel from Starke Ayres opened proceedings with a well-received presentation on plant pathology, walking farmers through the bacterial and fungal diseases most commonly affecting cabbage crops, as well as the abiotic stresses that are often misdiagnosed or overlooked. It was thorough, practical and clearly appreciated by the audience.

Dr Johan van der Waals from Real IPM followed with a presentation on root health and integrated pest management. His talk reinforced something that is becoming increasingly central to how progressive farmers think about crop protection: what happens below the surface is just as important as what you can see above it.

RegenZ's Nick Platt rounded out the technical programme with a presentation on soil health and regenerative agriculture. Nick spoke to the RegenZ approach of starting with a soil test, building a full crop programme, and supporting farmers with technical advice from planting through to harvest. His message to farmers was characteristically direct:

"Your soil is your most valuable asset, and looking after it is a good financial decision, not just 'good for the environment.' For us, everything starts with the soil. Simple question: is your soil improving over time as you farm?"

Underpinning that philosophy is the Beyond Soil Life™ product range, RegenZ's portfolio of liquid biostimulants and foliar feeds designed to support plant health at every stage of the crop cycle. From PopUp at transplant — which supports root development and early vigour - through to SeaBrixNPK, RealCal and AminoK during the growing season, the range is built around one principle: a well-fed, biologically active soil produces a stronger, healthier and more profitable crop. For vegetable farmers under pressure from input costs, disease and climate stress, that is not a small thing.

The RegenZ stand was busy throughout the day, with farmers stopping to ask about soil testing, input programmes, and where to get started. A number signed up for WhatsApp support and expressed interest in getting a soil test done ahead of their next planting cycle.

It was a good day. The kind that confirms why showing up in person, in the field, with farmers, is still the most effective thing you can do.
